Waiting On Wednesday, May 20

After reading Envy by Anna Godbersen the other day (you can read my review here), I am eagerly anticipating the next book (which will be book four!) in the series.

It's Splendour (with a U!!) and I don't know too much about it, but I have been eyeing the cover. The dress is cool and all but the styling and everthing doesn't look like what I would expect for the 1900s. (More so for the picture that was in the backcover of Envy than the little picture I have in this post, it looked different, honest!) It's pretty, though :)

It’s a new year, and Manhattan’s favorite socialites are stirring up brand-new drama: Elizabeth uncovers a dangerous secret from her past; Diana has an opportunity to follow her heart—and claim her future, Lina discovers money can buy happiness…for a time, and Penelope finds that life without Henry brings unexpected pleasures. In this dramatic conclusion to the bestselling Luxe series, old ties are broken, fresh bonds are formed, and every decision comes at a cost.

It's coming out in late October in the US. Not sure about Australia though as Envy was only just released here!

Waiting On Wednesday, May 13

I'm really looking forward to How It Ends by Laura Wiess. Laura is the author of Such A Pretty Girl and Leftovers both of which were aaaaaamazing. So I have very high expectations for this one too... it's not out until August though :(

And here's what it's about...

All Hanna's wanted since sophomore year is Seth. She's gone out with other guys, even gained a rep for being a flirt, all the while hoping cool, guitar-playing Seth will choose her. Then she gets him – but their relationship is hurtful, stormy and critical, not at all what Hanna thinks a perfect love should be.

Bewildered by Seth's treatment of her and in need of understanding, Hanna decides to fulfill her school's community service requirement by spending time with Helen, her terminally ill neighbor, who she's turned to for comfort and wisdom throughout her life. But illness has changed Helen into someone Hanna hardly knows, and her home is not the refuge it once was.

Feeling more alone than ever, Hanna gets drawn into an audio book the older woman is listening to, a fierce, unsettling love story of passion, sacrifice and devotion. Hanna's fascinated by the idea that such all-encompassing love can truly exist, and without even realizing it, the story begins to change her.

Until the day when the story becomes all too real...and Hanna's world is spun off its axis by its shattering irrevocable conclusion.

This is the US cover, I prefer it to the UK cover (above). It's in the same style as the covers of Laura Wiess's other two books so I hope we get this one in Australia! Which one do you like better?

Waiting On Wednesday, April 15

It's kind of not Wednesday anymore, huh. Oh well, I am still waiting on It's Not You, It's Me by Kerry Cohen Hoffman. The cover is too cute and it sounds awesome.

Here a synopsis from Kerry's website:

Zoë loves Henry. Henry dumps Zoë. Zoë wants Henry back - at any cost. Zoë's two best friends come up with a plan to help Zoë get what she thinks she wants. The plan: make Henry jealous. But the plan takes a surprising turn... Spanning thirty-one days in the cycle of a breakup, Kerry Cohen Hoffmann's funny and touching novel depicts a girl whose single-minded focus on her ex-boyfriend has pulled her far from the person she most needs to win back - herself.

It comes out in June! Eeee! :)

Waiting On Wednesday, March 18

Happy Wedesday everyone! Short and sweet today... I really want to read Willow by Julia Hoban!

Seven months ago, on a rainy March night, sixteen year- old Willow’s parents died in a horrible car accident. Willow was driving. Now her older brother barely speaks to her, her new classmates know her as the killer orphan girl, and Willow is blocking the pain by secretly cutting herself. But when one boy —one sensitive, soulful boy—discovers Willow’s secret, it sparks an intense relationship that turns the “safe” world Willow has created for herself upside down.

Told in an extraordinary fresh voice, Willow is an unforgettable novel about one girl’s struggle to cope with tragedy, and one boy’s refusal to give up on her.

Sound good? It's out in April.

Waiting On Wednesday, March 11

Waiting on Wednesday - Waiting For You. Too perfect! :) I really want to read Waiting For You by Susane Colasanti. Read a synposis...

From
amazon:
At the beginning of her sophomore year, Marisa is ready for a fresh start and, more importantly, a boyfriend. So when the handsome and popular Derek asks her out, Marisa thinks her long wait for happiness is over. But several bumps in the road—including her parents’ unexpected separation, a fight with her best friend, and a shocking disappointment in her relationship with Derek—test Marisa’s ability to maintain her new outlook. Only the anonymous DJ, whose underground podcasts have the school’s ear, seems to understand what Marisa is going through. But she has no idea who he is—or does she? In this third romantic novel from Susane Colasanti, Marisa learns how to “be in the Now” and realizes that the love she’s been waiting for has been right in front of her all along.

Sounds like a good read :) Waiting For You by Susane Colasanti is out in mid-May!

Waiting On 'Wednesday', February 19

It's not Wednesday anymore. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm really looking forward to Justine Larbalestier's How To Ditch Your Fairy. All you overseas people may scoff at me, but sadly How To Ditch Your Fairy hasn't even been released in Australia yet. So unfair!

From Amazon

Welcome to New Avalon, where everyone has a personal fairy. Though invisible to the naked eye, a personal fairy, like a specialized good luck charm, is vital to success. And in the case of the students at New Avalon Sports High, it might just determine whether you make the team, pass a class, or find that perfect outfit. But for 14-year-old Charlie, having a Parking Fairy is worse than having nothing at all—especially when the school bully carts her around like his own personal parking pass. Enter: The Plan. At first, teaming up with arch-enemy Fiorenza (who has an All-The-Boys-Like-You Fairy) seems like a great idea. But when Charlie unexpectedly gets her heart’s desire, it isn’t at all what she thought it would be like, and she’ll have resort to extraordinary measures to ditch her fairy. The question is: will Charlie herself survive the fairy ditching experiment? From the author of the acclaimed Magic or Madness trilogy, this is a delightful story of fairies, friendships, and figuring out how to make your own magic.

Hope everyone has a good 'Wednesday'. And by 'Wednesday' I mean Thursday :)

Waiting On Wednesday, February 11

I really want to read Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender!

From Amazon:

Alexis thought she led a typically dysfunctional high school existence. Dysfunctional like her parents' marriage; her doll-crazy twelve-year-old sister, Kasey; and even her own anti-social, anti-cheerleader attitude.

When a family fight results in some tearful sisterly bonding, Alexis realizes that her life is creeping from dysfunction into danger. Kasey is acting stranger than ever: her blue eyes go green sometimes; she uses old-fashioned language; and she even loses track of chunks of time, claiming to know nothing about her strange behavior. Their old house is changing, too. Doors open and close by themselves; water boils on the unlit stove; and an unplugged air conditioner turns the house cold enough to see their breath in.

Alexis wants to think that it's all in her head, but soon, what she liked to think of as silly parlor tricks are becoming life-threatening--to her, her family, and to her budding relationship with the class president. Alexis knows she's the only person who can stop Kasey -- but what if that green-eyed girl isn't even Kasey anymore?

Creepy :) How good does it sound?!! It's not out until late April though.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Waiting On Wednesday, February 4

This Wednesday I am 'patiently' waiting for the release of If I Stay by Gayle Forman.

Short and sweet, from Amazon:

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen year- old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make—and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

Aaaah I really want to read it! Adele has already reviewed it here.

It sounds really sad. Only have to wait until April! April is quite a while away, actually... what are you waiting on?

Waiting On Wednesday, January 28

Better late than never, it's not Wednesday anymore but I am still eagerly waiting on Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, the author of Speak. It sounds like it will be a deeply emotional and moving book. And also, brilliant cover art. Love love love the cover. Great design. *Swoon!*

From Amazon:

“Dead girl walking,” the boys say in the halls.
“Tell us your secret,” the girls whisper, one toilet to another.
I am that girl.
I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through.
I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.

Lia and Cassie are best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies, competitors in a deadly contest to see who can be the skinniest. But what comes after size zero and size double-zero? When Cassie succumbs to the demons within, Lia feels she is being haunted by her friend’s restless spirit.

In her most emotionally wrenching, lyrically written book since the multiple-award-winning Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson explores Lia’s descent into the powerful vortex of anorexia, and her painful path toward recovery.

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson will be released on 19th March 2009. So... are you waiting on anything?

Waiting On Wednesday, January 21

Solving ZoeHappy Wednesday everybody! We're halfway through the week already :)

What am I waiting on this Wednesday? That would be Solving Zoe by Barbara Dee.

From the author's website:

Zoe Bennett feels lost at her fancy private school. She’s not the star drama queen, like her sister, or a brainiac math genius like her brother. Luckily her best friend, Dara, is just as content as Zoe is to stay in the shadows—or is she? When Dara gets a part in the school musical, Zoe feels abandoned. What’s worse, she’s practically being stalked by the weird new kid, Lucas. When he accidentally drops his notebook, Zoe finds it’s written in symbols and numbers—it’s complete gibberish. And yet she sees her name in there, plain as day. Now Lucas is telling her she’s a natural code-reading genius—or some kind of mental freak.

As Zoe’s daydreaming lands her in trouble at school, anonymous notes start to appear in students’ lockers, and they point to Zoe as the number one suspect. Solving word puzzles may come easily to her, but now there’s more at stake—will Zoe be able to solve her way out of this?

With plenty of wit and insight, Barbara Dee has created this fresh, funny story of a girl who discovers that fitting in sometimes means standing out.

Sounds like good fun to me :) Solving Zoe comes out on April 21, 2009.

How's your Wednesday going? Are you waiting for anything...?

Waiting On Wednesday, January 14

Pgymy by Chuck Palahniuk

It may not be Wednesday everywhere in the world yet but I'm halfway through mine! (Jill at Breaking The Spine hosts 'Waiting On' Wednesday every week.)

One book I'm desperately waiting on is Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk. I'm a huge Palahniuk fan... let's just say I'd do anything to get my hands on a copy of this.

From the publisher's website:

“Begins here first account of operative me, agent number 67 on arrival midwestern American airport greater _____ area. Flight _____. Date _____. Priority mission top success to complete. Code name: Operation Havoc.”

Thus speaks Pygmy, one of a handful of young adults from a totalitarian state sent to the United States, disguised as exchange students, to live with typical American families and blend in, all the while planning an unspecified act of massive terrorism. Palahniuk depicts Midwestern life through the eyes of this thoroughly indoctrinated little killer, who hates us with a passion, in this cunning double-edged satire of an American xenophobia that might, in fact, be completely justified. For Pygmy and his fellow operatives are cooking up something big, something truly awful, that will bring this big dumb country and its fat dumb inhabitants to their knees.

It's a comedy.

Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk is set to be released on May 5, 2009.

What book are you desperately waiting on?
